Homeopathy-Tips-for-Exam-Stress

GCSEs? A Levels? SATS? International Baccalaureate? Finals? Phonics screening?

The list seems to grow each year!

And now it’s that time of year again… Children and students around the country are madly revising for imminent exams. We’ve all been there, so we sympathise, we try to help, we try to nurture – but is there another way to support this potentially stressful time?

In early summer I’m finding that more and more young people and their parents are turning to homeopathy, to help with the anxiety and accompanying symptoms that exam season brings.

Anxiety can show itself is a wide variety of ways, and by treating the person overall homeopathy can restore both physical health and emotional wellbeing. It’s becoming increasing recognised that stress affects our immune systems, so in the build up to exams you’re more vulnerable to colds, coughs and flu – which are the last thing you need! Some of the most common exam-related symptoms I see are insomnia, loss of self-esteem, loss of appetite and headaches.

A few Homeopathic Remedies for Exam Nerves

There are a wide range of remedies to choose from in treating exam stress, and a homeopath will select a remedy that fits your individual pattern of symptoms. The three remedies below are some of the most commonly used, and give you an idea of how we look at the whole person rather than seperate symptoms.

Arg nit: The anticipatory anxiety of someone needing Arg nit can appear like a headless chicken! Hurried, fidgety and impulsive, and a lot of worrying “what if?”. They often crave sweets but them feel worse after eating them. Physically there can be vomiting or diarrhoea and trembling.

Gelsemium: There is a tendency to feel ‘paralysed’ by their anxiety, with sensations of heaviness and weariness both physically and mentally; their mind can just go blank during revision and exams. Physically there can be trembling and classic ‘flu’ symptoms.

Lycopodium: Underlying is usually a lack of self-confidence and a fear of failure, but they hide it well and can even seem over-confident. Despite all the worrying they tend to do fine in the actual exam once they get started. They can be irritable, especially at home. Physically the anxiety shows in digestive symptoms, including lots of bloating and wind.
